George's Story.

George Stevenson died at the Battle of Jutland on 31st May 1916. He was 18 years old. His body was not recovered, so he has no grave or headstone, but he is remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial as well as in his home town of Wallasey.

George was born on 1st May 1898 in Wallasey, Cheshire, to Jane Elizabeth Warrington (1865  - 1936) and John Stevenson (1864 - 1947), though his naval records show an alleged birth years of 1895 and 1896. The 1911 census shows him, aged 12, living with his parents at 16 Granville Terrace, Wallasey, Cheshire. He enlisted into the Navy aged only about fourteen.

George was the younger brother of Charles Stevenson, who was killed in action on 16th February 1916. He was 23 years old. The two brothers are remembered on their parents' grave in Wallasey.
