Harold's Story.

PRIVATE H. BROOKES.

Mr. and Mrs. Brookes, 307, Alton-street, Crewe, have received news that their son, Private Harold Brookes, Cyclist Corps, has been killed in action.
He enlisted on the 6 April, 1917, and was 19 years of age. He was formerly employed in the grocery department of the Crewe Co-operative Society. Private Brookes was educated at Eddleston-road Schools, under Mr. J. E. Barrett.
Private Basil Alcock, the deceased's comrade, has written to Mrs. Brookes, expressing sympathy in her sad bereavement. He says that Private Brookes was killed by a piece of shell which struck him in the back of the head. He died during the night of the 11 October, and was buried on the following day.
