Edmond Mansel's Story.

He is the son of the late Commaner J.E. Bowly and was the husband of Elisabeth Manners Bowly nee Downie (who's two brothers were to die during the war). He resided at 'Carrisbrook', Knutsford before moving to 119, Cromwell Street, South Kensington, London.
On 12 January 1918, HMS Narborough and her sister ship Opal were wrecked on the cliffs at Hesta Rock, just to the north of Windwick Bay, South Ronaldsay. Only one sailor survived; 188 were killed. Most of the casualties were never found and are commemorated on the Portsmouth Memorial.

Researched and compiled by Tony Davies.
