Birkenhead News 28 July 1917

Pte. W. H. ATKINSON KILLED.

The death is reported in action of Pte. William Henry Atkinson (“Gammey”), who was very well-known in Birkenhead. He joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers (Labour Battalion) in March, 1916, and had only been out to France twelve months when he received his death wound. Prior to joining the Army he was employed by Cammell Laird, and Co., and resided with his uncle, Mr. Monaghan, at 44, Beckwith Street. Deep sympathy will be given to the relatives in their sad loss. Mr. Monaghan has also a son-in-law, Driver Orr, who is in the Royal Field Artillery, and has been in France since the commencement of the war.
