Alfred Hammond's Story.

Alfred Hammond Arden was the son of James and Sarah Arden of 154 Greenway Road, Runcorn. He joined up in 1916 in the Royal Navy as a Joiner and was stationed on H.M.S. Royal Sovereign, a Revenge class dreadnought battleship launched in 1915. 
He was present when the german fleet surrendered at Scapa Flow. After demobilisitation he found work at Castner Kellner. In August 1919 he was taken ill. He became worse and although cared for died on on 3rd October 1919. 
He had a brother Walter and sister Beatrice. On Friday 21st May 1920 an article appeared in the Runcorn Weekly News from his parents. 

In cherished birthday remembrance (23rd May) of Alfred Hammond Arden, died October 3rd 1919

In the pride of his youth death claimed him
In the pride of his manhood days
None knew him best to love him
None mention his name but with praise.
Alfred is buried in Runcorn Cemetery.
