Frederick's Story.

B. M. & Co. R.o.H. booklet, Winnington Wks, pre WW1 listings, record 18 lads named Johnson and in the post WW1 listings they list a further 10 lads named Johnson. Some of the lads above are the B. M. & Co. lads but not all.
Frederick “Fallen” (Pte.)
C.W.G.C. - remember a Frederick Johnson at YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, Belgium, He died on Friday 7th May 1915, aged 38, Frederick was with 1st Bn. Cheshire Reg’t., Service No 12271. Son of Annie Johnson of 21 Forest St. Weaverham, Cheshire, and the late Alfred Johnson
N.A.M.C. - have one medal card for a lad named Frederick Johnson with the service No. 12271, and with the Cheshire Regiment, with the Rank of Private. He was awarded the British, Victory and 15 Star medals, Theatre of War, France and Date of Entry, 13/4/15. The card also records Frederick’s death, 7/5/15. Frederick had less than 4 weeks on the front before we was killed.
Some of Frederick service documents are available to view. He enlisted at Northwich on the 23rd Dec.1914, his address is recorded as School Bank, Weaverham. (Same address as Arthur.) He was posted with the 1st Bn. G.S. (General Service) Cheshire Regiment with the No 12271. Frederick was 39yrs 9m when he enlisted, stood 5ft 5in tall, weight was 118lb, with a girth of 36in, his development is recorded as “Good”. He states he had previous service with Cheshire Reg., the time had expired and that he was registered as Class II National Reservist. His Active Service Form states he embarked Southampton 13/4/15 and joined his Battalion 18/4/15. The form also states he was Killed in Action on the 7/5/15.
