John Giles's Story.

A well-known and respected Comberbach soldier, Lance-Corporal John Bramhall, of the Cheshire Regiment, was killed in action on the lst August 1917. The news was conveyed to his wife, who lives at School House, Comberbach, in a letter from the deceased's officer, who wrote as follows:
"It is with the deepest regret that 1 have to inform you of the death in action of your husband, Lance-Corporal John Bramhall. His excellent work as a N.C.O. of this battalion will be missed indeed, and on behalf of his company officers and myself may I offer you deepest our sympathy in this your time of grief"

Lance-Corporal Bramhall was 27 years of age, and he joined the Colours in March of last year. He was previously employed at Mere Hall, Knutsford. He had been on active service little over twelve months. His name appears on the roll of honour for the parish of Great Budworth. as h# was a regular worshipper at Budworth Church. His genial and kindly disposition made him a general favourite amongst all who knew him.

Comrade's Tribute.
Mrs. Bramhall has received the following letter from one of the deceased's comrades at the front:
"Just a few lines in answer to your letter of inquiry. Your husband and 1 were very great friends, and we were always together, when we had any spare time. I am sorry to inform you that it is true about his death. as I know where he is buried.  He was killed by a piece of shell instantaneously, so you see he had no pain to suffer. The shell burst about 100 yards from him. He was buried behind the lines by the chaplain. I can quite understand you being broken-hearted, and I hope you will aceept my deepest sympathy in vour bereavement. He was well liked by all his pals, who I am sure miss him very much"
