Birkenhead News  04 September 1915

FORMER LICENSEE KILLED IN FRANCE.

Mrs. Crowther of Ivy Street, Birkenhead, has just received the news that her husband, Lance-Corpl. T. W. Crowther, of 1st Ontario (Canadian) Regt., who was posted as missing on June 15th, after the Battle of Givenchy, has been killed in action.

Lance-Corpl. Crowther, who was well-known in Birkenhead, was 32 years of age, and joined the Canadian Regiment at the commencement of the war. He was formerly the licensee of the Shakespeare Hotel, in Albion Street, for over two years. He is deeply mourned by his mother, of 53 Market Street, his wife and son (aged 6 years), and a large circle of friends.

Note: the above newspaper article is reproduced word for word and records Lance-Corporal Crowther’s initials as T. W. This is an error - his correct initials are F. W.
