John's Story.
Birkenhead News 27 October 1917WELL-KNOWN MAN KILLED.
Mrs. Taylor, of 2, Oak Street, has received official intimation of the death in action of her husband, Pte. John Taylor. He joined the Royal Warwicks in March of this year, and after ten week’ training was sent to France, where he was killed on Sept. 6th as a result of a shell exploding close to him. Mrs. Taylor received a letter from his captain which states :
“I am glad to say he met his death instantaneously, and that he suffered no pain.” Prior to joining the Army Pte. Taylor was employed at the Public Health Dept, Town Hall, and a letter of sympathy Mrs. Taylor received from Mr. W. Dawson, Chief Inspector of Nuisances, states : “Mr. Taylor was greatly esteemed by all in the Public Health Department for his good qualities and his kind and quiet demeanour. The committee have lost in him a good and faithful servant.” Pte. Taylor was very well known in the town, and much sympathy will go out to the wife and child left to mourn his loss. He resided at 2, Oak Street, Birkenhead.
