“A Peaceful Look.”

Mrs. Lockery of 28, Lowther Street, has received the official intimation of the death in action of her son, Pioneer J. Lockery, who was attached to the Royal Engineers.

The young man was killed on the 29th June, and a chum, writing to the bereaved mother, states that death was instantaneous, and that the dead soldier’s face bore a very peaceful look. The deceased was just 20 years of age. He was educated at St. Mary’s School, and prior to joining the Army he was employed by Mr. Collins in Conway Street as a driver. He joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers shortly after the outbreak of war, but was transferred to the Royal Engineers, and has been at the front for 10 months.
