The Toll of War.
North-End Parents Lose a Son.
Among the heavy losses sustained by the King’s Liverpool Regiment in the recent fighting appears the name of Pte. David Henry Laverty, of 458, Price Street. He was reported killed on the 9th August, and the official information of his death was received by his parents on the 26th. He joined the forces in November, 1915, and went to the front in April of this year, taking part in all the battles since that time. The deceased soldier was, before joining, carrying on a business of his own as a grocer in Price Street, Birkenhead. He had served his time at Messrs. Williams’ Brothers, the well-known grocers. The unfortunate soldier was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Laverty, of 458, Price Street, and has a younger brother serving in the Navy with the Grand Fleet. Twenty-five years of age, he was educated at the Francis De Sales school in Walton, Liverpool, but had been living in Birkenhead for a considerable number of years, and was well-known in the North End of the town.
