John William's Story.

JOHN WILLIAM ARMITAGE

John was born in Northwich in 1888 to parents Jabez Armitage and Mary Maria Armitage (nee Thomas).  John was a twin.  His brother Joseph Collin Armitage also served in the Cheshire Regiment and was wounded in battle.  His father Jabez was a shipping clerk at Brunner Mond & Co and John, along with his twin followed in his footsteps and became commercial clerks with the company at the time of enlistment.  They are both mentioned in the company's Roll of Honour.

The Armitage's were a well established Northwich family and lived in Castle before moving to 5 Moss Road, Winnington.  John was one of five boys.
