Birkenhead News 04 September 1915WELSH FUSILIER KILLED.
Former North-end Footballer.
We give a portrait of the late Private Samuel Chalinor, of the Royal Welsh Fusliers, who was killed somewhere in France on the 6th August. After being three years in India he was on the reserve, and when war was declared rejoined his regiment a little over twelve months ago. In a letter sent home by a comrade, the officers and non-commissioned officers express regret at the loss of “a good soldier and a dear friend.” Private Chalinor was the son of the late William and Mary Chalinor, and is deeply mourned by his brothers and sisters, all of whom reside in Birkenhead, his brother Peter at 15, Penrith Street. The deceased soldier worked at Seacombe docks, was educated at St. James’ School, Birkenhead, and was for some years a prominent player for the North End Club. In his last letter to his brother Peter Private Chalinor describes himself as “feeling champion.”. He concludes “God bless you and all at home.”
