Arthur Levi Watkin's Story.
Arthur was the son of Charles Moseley (1856–1913) and Adeline Fanny nee Watkin (1872 - 1962). He was born on 5th February 1892 in Audlem, near Nantwich, Cheshire, and is commemorated on the war memorial there. At the time of his death, his parents were living at 1, Victoria Rd., Widnes, Lancashire.
In 1901, the family was living at Hankelow, and his father was a housepainter / decorator. Arthur had three brothers: George Frederick Moseley (1893–), Clifford Charles Moseley (1898–) and Reginald Oswald Moseley (1905–1973). By 1911, Arthur was an Auctioner's Clerk, and living at the Stags Head, Market Drayton, where his parents were the innkeepers.
On 1st May 1912, Arthur set off for Canada aboard the Empress of Ireland, arriving in Quebec on 13th May. His destination was Winnipeg. According to the passenger list he was married, but there is no record of any marriage near Market Drayton, and his mother was shown as his next of kin, so I believe he was still single.
In 1914, Arthur enlisted in the Canadian Infantry (British Columbia Regiment). Sent to France, he was killed in action in the morning of 9th August 1918 when a shell fell close by him. He was 26 years old.
Arthur's name appears on the war memorial in Audlem.
He is also remembered on a memorial located on the North wall of St James the Great Church, Stafford Street, Audlem.
