Richard's Story.
Richard was born in Burton, Tarvin, Cheshire in 1897. He lived with his father Thomas Edward, a farmer, and his mother Mary at The Hamlet, Crowton, Cheshire. He had 3 brothers, Thomas, Jessie & Robert, and 3 sisters, Ellen, Mary & Alice. By 1911 his father had died, and the family were living at "Highwayside", Tarporley, Cheshire. Richard was now a joiner's apprentice. They later moved to "The Lilacs", Alpraham, Cheshire.

Richard enlisted in Crewe, Cheshire on the 7 December 1915. He entered France on the 8 September 1917. He was posted to the 14th Battalion on the 23 September 1917. He was killed in action on the 7 December 1917. He is buried at Ration Farm Cemetery, La Chapelle-d'Armentieres, Nord France. IV B8.
