Charles's Story.

It is now officially reported that Private Charles Wardle of the Lancashire Fusiliers, was killed in action on August 29th. Private Wardle, who was 20 years of age at the time of his death, was attached to the Lancashire Fusiliers. He was the only son of Mrs. and the late Mr. David Wardle, of 17, Cobden Street, Tranmere. Before joining up in September, 1916, Pte. Wardle was employed as a clerk in the L and N.W. Railway offices. For four years he was a member of the St. John’s Ambulance Class, and he rendered valuable assistance at the various local hospitals.
He went to France in February of this year. Mrs. Wardle has received a letter from her son’s chaplain, who writes :- “He with several others was in the cellar of a house when a big shell burst the roof in. Your son’s body lies in a cemetery reserved for our lads who have laid down their lives.”
Every sympathy will be given to Mrs. Wardle in her very sad loss.
