George's Story.

George Parkes was one of fourteen children of Samuel and Sarah Parkes of 67 Whalley Road, Northwich. In 1911 the family lived at Priory Street, off Whalley Road. The census return shows that two of the children had died. George age 15 was working as a messenger for the Post Office.

On the 1st July 1916, George recieved a slight wound, in his letter home he mentions seeing Richard (Dick) Eaton and George Elmore both from Northwich killed.
George was killed in action in April 1917, he was at first reported missing which appeared in the local papers in July 1917.

In March 1918, he the family received news confirming that George had been killed 28 April 1917.
