DEATH OF OLD HIGHER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BOY
The death is announced of Lance-Corpl. Harold Irving, who died at a base hospital, France, on March 7th. He joined the South Lancashire Regt. twelve months last October, and had been in France 14 months without leave. In a letter received by his mother from her son’s officer he says :- “The whole of his comrades join me in this small expression of sympathy, for your son’s winning ways and cheery smile made him immensely popular with everyone. He was always cheerful even when things looked black, and we always had the feeling that he could be utterly depended on to do his best under any circumstances. We valued your son not only because of his good work, but because of his bravery and true comradeship.”
Lance-Corporal Irving was very well known in the town, having been educated at the Higher Elementary School, Conway Street, later being employed by Powell, Bacon and Hough’s. He resided at 118, Argyle Street South. Much sympathy will be extended to the bereaved relatives in their sad loss.
