Former Birkenhead Railway Worker Falls
Another of the railway employees who rallied to the colours when the war broke out has “gone under”. This is Gunner Jack McNulty (25) of the Machine Gun Section attached to the 27th Brigade serving “somewhere in France”. The deceased, who was but 25 years of age, had resided with his wife at No. 2, Nelson Street, Grange Road, Birkenhead, and prior to joining the Army he was in the employ in this town of the London and North Western Railway Company. Only a few days ago Mrs. McNulty received the sad intelligence that her husband had succumbed on December 3rd in hospital to wounds received in action. In her bereavement the widow, who has no children, has received a message of condolence from the King and Queen. The captain of the deceased’s company who conveyed the intelligence of her husband’s death to Mrs. McNulty also offered her the sincere sympathy of himself and the fallen soldier’s comrades.
