James's Story.
Sergeant J. Ruane, Cheshire Regiment. In 1918 he was wounded for the fourth time whilst serving on active service. The brother of Mrs J. Robinson of Senna Lane, Comberbach, Northwich, he informed his family that he had returned to Britain after sustaining wounds to both legs, both heels and the right hand. Following treatment, during which surgeons removed shrapnel from his legs, he expressed confidence in making a full recovery. Sergeant Ruane had enlisted in August 1914 and, on two occasions, had previously been evacuated to England for medical treatment. His younger brother also served in France and was wounded twice during the war.
