Harold's Story.
There are no Duncan’s on Weaverham St. Mary’s “Roll of Honour” but a Harold Duncan came up just using "Weaverham" in the search of Service Documents, as did a Robert Woodward Duncan.
The 1911 census for the Duncan family has them living at Huxley St. Castle. Joseph head of the family was aged 50, a chemical labourer and was born Winsford; His wife Lucy, aged 40, having had 8 children all surviving; Robert aged 19, Chemical Labour, Ruby aged 17, Fusion? Cutter, Harold aged 14, Chemical Labourer, Ada aged 12, school, Emily aged 10, school, Evelyn aged 6 all born Weaverham; finally Thomas, aged 4 and Joseph aged 7m, born Northwich.
Cheshirebmd records a Harold Duncan born in the Weaverham District in the year 1896.
Harold’s attestation and service documents are available. Harold’s address when he was attested was Weaverham, this was on the 2nd Sept. 1914 and his service reckons from that date. He was posted private on the 4th Sept. 1914 with the 7th Bn. East Lancs. Reg’t., No 6781. He was transferred to the 8th Bat’n, Cheshire Reg’t. on the 15th Nov. 1915 as he joined the Exp. Force. Harold's service sheets show that he was in Mudros, Greece. Later Harold was with the Forces in Kirkee, India. It wasn’t until 12th Oct. 1919 that Harold embarked at Bombay for Home. Home which was on the 15th Nov. 1919, is recorded as 39 Huxley St., Castle Park.
N.A.M.C. - record Harold (Pte.) with the Cheshire Reg’t. No 27659, Theatre of War; Balkans and Date of Entry; 17th Nov. 1915. Harold was awarded the British, Victory and 15 Star medals.
B. M. & Co. R.o.H. booklet records a Harold Duncan at the preWW1 listings Winnington Works, he was with the 8th Cheshires and it is recorded he was wounded.
The 1921 shows Harold still living at home, 39 Huxley Street, Northwich. He is a Night Watchman at the B. & M. Co’s, Winnington Site
