EARLY LIFE
Charles Mitchell was born in 1898 and baptised at St Paul's Church on 7 June 1899, the son of Mary (née Houghton) and John Mitchell, a carter of Hibel Road, Macclesfield.
In 1901, two year old Charles was living at 6 Crown Street with his parents, half-sisters Beatrice Haughton (14) and Florence Haughton (8), and brothers John (5) and William (4). Ten years later, the family had moved to 10 Palace Terrace, Hibel Road, Macclesfield, and Charles was employed as a weaver at a cotton mill.
WW1 SERVICE
Charles enlisted at Macclesfield, joining the Lancashire Fusiliers. He was reported missing on 21 March 1918 and was later assumed to have been killed in action on or since that date.
