PEEL ST. SERGEANT DIES OF WOUNDS.

Mr. Griffiths, of 143, Peel Street, Birkenhead, has received official information from the War Office that his son, Sergt. G. Griffiths, has died from wounds received and gas poisoning while in action in France. Previous to joining the colours he was employed at the Shropshire Union and alter joined the Cheshire Territorials. At the outbreak of war he was sent to Egypt with the Cheshires and remained there two years and eight months, during which time he was wounded. He was later transferred to France, and was wounded and gassed on the 24th July, and died on the 28th of the same month.

Although the newspaper article reports George Griffiths’ death as 28th July military records the date as 27th July 1918.

George’s brother Joe Griffiths died of illness on 5th November 1918.
