John Michael's Story.
Private John Michael Tunney died of diabetes at the Military Hospital at Moston Hall, near Chester, on 29th December 1946. He was 19 years old. He is buried at Sandbach Cemetery, The Hill, Sandbach, in plot 1009.
What do we know about John?
John Michael Tunney was born in Northwich in the autumn of 1927, the elder son of Michael Tunney (1902 - 1983) and Lily Cecilia Graven (1905–1991). He was brother to Eugene, Anne and Carolyn. By 1939, the family was living at 21 Stringer Avenue, Sandbach. After enlisting into the Royal Army Service Corps, John was admitted to the Military Hospital at Moston Hall, Liverpool Road, Chester, and died there of diabetes on 29th December 1946. He was nineteen years old.
