Bromboro’ Pool Patriot Killed.
One of the First to Enlist.

In the death in action of Lance-Corpl. Green, aged 19 years, of the 11th Cheshire Regt., Bromborough Pool has lost its first “patriot.” He was the son of Mrs. Green, of 37, South View, and one of the first five men of his district to enlist. He was in the landing at Suvla Bay, and came home from there ill. After being for seven months at home he was sent out to the front again in March of this year.
Lance-Corporal Green was educated at the Bromborough Pool School, and was afterwards for four years employed by the local Co-operative Society. He was an old member of the Bebington Church Lads’ Brigade, holding the rank of sergeant. He played for the tradesman’s team of footballers.
Letters of condolence have been received by the bereaved mother. One from a close chum of Lance-Corporal Green says :- “He died fighting for his country against the common enemy. He was killed on the 3rd July as we were taking a very active part in the British offensive. His death was almost instantaneous, as we were ordered to attack at a certain time. He was one of the first over the parapet, but he fell back in the open, wounded, only to rise and cheer us up and call us across, but sad to say he was caught again and fell as he lived, and as I have always known him, a soldier and a man. He was well liked by all our platoon, and what is left of us all join in sending you our deepest sympathy in your sad loss.”
