Private J Golden died of disease (probably typhoid) at Bethulie, Free State, South Africa, on 17th June 1900. His regimental number is indistinct but his medals record indicate it was 3600 ... His surname may possibly be Goulden, as a family of that name lived in Macclesfield.

Newspaper report, dated 23rd June 1900.
In 1901, Private Golden was posthumously awarded the QSA medal, with clasps for Cape Colony and Orange Free State.
