Died from Wounds.

Major Bates of Hoylake.

In our issue of Wednesday last we announced the death, which took place on March 23rd from wounds received in action, of Major W. Bates, of the Canadian Infantry Regiment. Major Bates was the second son of Mr. William Bates, of Hoylake. Educated at Birkenhead School and Lancashire Grammar School, he had spent the last thirteen years in Canada, where he had an extensive farm. The deceased officer has also three other brothers now serving with his Majesty’s forces. Major Bates had many friends in Hoylake and Birkenhead, and news of his death has caused a profound feeling of sorrow.
