C.W.G.C. remember a T. W. Longmate, Pte, with the 1st Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers, Service No. 37368, at the Ledeghem Military Cemetery, Belgium. (A.45.) Died 14th October 1918 aged 33 years. Son of James and Mary Longmate of Staveley, (Between Kendal and Windermere) - husband of Mrs M. E. Longmate of 18 David St. Northwich.

The 1911 census has a Wilfred Longmate living at Edgbaston, Birmingham, working as an Assistant Draper, born Staveley Derbyshire. (He had a brother, born 1885, Tunnard Arthur Longmate in 1885 in Chesterfield. He was awarded a S.W.B. Silver War Badge, being discharged for shell shock, Pte., Service No 204495, S.W.B. No 386091.)

Northwich Guardian 9th November 1917. KHAKI WEDDING AT NORTHWICH
Khaki wedding was solemnized at St. Helen’s Church, Witton, on Thursday, the contracting parties being Private T. W. Longmate of the Lancashire Fusiliers and Miss Mary Elizabeth Rutter, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs Charles Rutter of 52 Chester Road, Castle. The wedding was originally intended to have formed part of a double ceremony about two months ago, when the bride's sister was married but at the last moment, Private Longmate was unable to obtain leave from the front. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked very pretty in a pink crepe de chine dress and a hat to match, trimmed with orange blossom. She was attended by the bridegroom’s sister, Miss S. Longmate and two of her nieces, Misses Lilian and Phyllis Lyman, ………. Mr. S. Booker acted as best man. The reception was held at the King’s Cafe, where about thirty guests were present. The officiating minister was the Rev. A. W. Webb.
The Marriage certificate was viewable on Ancestry, the date of the marriage was the 8th November 1917. Tunnard’s age is recorded as 34, both residing at 52 Chester Road, Northwich, at the time of the marriage. The Minister, Alfred W. Webb, Vicar of Holy Trinity, Castle, Northwich.
