Antoni's Story.

Antoni Oswiecimski was born in 1916 in Vilnius and died on August 1, 1947.

He was the eldest son of Konstanty Oswiecimski (also known as Oswiecinski) and Maria Oswiecimska (maiden name Mintow-Czyż (1983–1963)). Antoni's father was a colonel in the Polish Army and fought in the War of 1920. Konstanty Oswiecimski served as commander of the 80th Infantry Regiment and later the 41st Infantry Regiment (1879–1960).

Antoni studied in Vilnius; after the outbreak of World War II, he was in France, where he joined the 2nd Rifle Division in 1939. Antoni was awarded the Cross of Valor. After the invasion of France in June, he was interned in Switzerland.

In August 1944, he was evacuated from Switzerland and settled in Aberdeen, Great Britain. While in Britain he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and died  Aberdeen or Cardiff on August 1, 1947. He is buried in Chester (Blacon) at the War Cemetery, Section H, grave 65.

Antoni’s family – specifically, his brother’s son – Piotr Oswiecimski found his grave and visited it in 2025.  After many years Piotr fulfilled the dream of Antoni’s siblings. We are grateful for the creation of this website, it was due to this, it was possible to locate Antoni’s resting place.

The Cheshire Roll of Honour would like to thank Poitr Oswiecimski and Justyna Darnikowska for the pictures and information.
