LANCE-CORPORAL J.E. BUTLER
News has been received that Lance Corporal J.E. Butler, of the Cheshire Regiment has died of wounds received in action on September 4th. The son of Mr. and Mrs. W Butler, Chapel House, Hatherton, he enlisted in the Cheshire’s in January 1915, and was drafted to the Dardanelles in September the same year. He was invalided home in 1916, and upon recovery was sent to the front. He was in hospital abroad, suffering from trench feet from August 1917 to November and while there he gave a pint and a half of blood to save a comrade’s life. He was in England for a time but returned to the front in May 1918. He was 27 years of age and leaves a widow and two children. Before he enlisted, he was employed in Crewe Works.
