George's Story.
Second son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Peter Burke, Birkenhead. He resided with his wife Edith at 34 Demesne Street, Seacombe, Wallasey.
Seacombe Motor-Driver Dies From Wounds
The following official telegrams have been received of the death of Pte. George Burke, of the Army Service Corps: -
“Regret, 2nd Canadian Clearing Station, France, reports Pte. G. Burke is lying dangerously ill from gun-shot received July 7 – buttock, face, arm, and knee.”
A second message says: -
“It is our painful duty to inform you that your husband, Pte. G. Burke, died from gunshot wound – multiple – on the 8th July at the Casualty Clearing Station, France.”
The brave soldier joined the colours April 1916, and had been twelve months in France. He was formerly employed by the Wallasey Taxi Co. and was the second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burke, Birkenhead, and his wife resides at 34, Demesne Street, Seacombe.
Edith received £4 War Gratuity in 1919.
