Edward's Story.
Birkenhead News 29 September 1917ROCK FERRY MAN KILLED.
The sad news has recently been received by Mrs Roberts, 53, Railway Road, Rock Ferry, that her youngest son private Edward Roberts (Ted), has been killed in action. He joined the Wirral Battalion (Cheshire Regt.) on the outbreak of war, and has gone through some very severe fighting. He was wounded last year in the left hand, and had the good luck to get to England, where he soon got alright, and was drafted to Salonika, where he has met his death. His mother has received some very touching letters all speaking very highly of him, also one from his Commanding Officer, saying “He was quiet, unassuming, and very brave in the face of danger. Moreover, he was very well liked, both by all officers and men, and his death is a real loss to the Platoon. He was buried in a little cemetery near the front lines.”
