James's Story.

James Bracegirdle was born in Knutsford in 1892, one of seven children born to George (a labourer) and Sarah (a charwoman) of 10, Swinton Square, Knutsford. James took up the trade as a gardener.

He enlisted in the army as Private no. 433 of the Cheshire Yeomanry before transferring to the 10th Battalion of the Kings (Shropshire Light Infantry as Private no. 250548.

James was killed in action on the 10th March 1918.
