Edmund Pulford's Story.

Edmund Pulford Morris was born in the Hawarden Registration District in 1896 (HAW/42/27)

There is a query over the 1901 census as there is a son Edward Telford, 5, entered but this entry was written with no surname except Telford, unless he was Edward Telford, but I don't know if the child was Edward Telford MORRIS or Edward TELFORD. However, I do believe that this is Edmund P. MORRIS, and the enumerator made an error or the family misquoted, here is his Birth Certificate above.
The family were living at 55 Ewart Street, Mold, the same address that is on his Flintshire WW1 Index Card.
The family consisted of Robert Morris, 43, head of the household and a Railway Guard and local Preacher, born in Montgomeryshire and he was bilingual the only person in the housed who was. His wife Elizabeth, 49 was born Ffrwd, Flintshire and their eldest child was their son Evan, 17 single and an Engine Cleaner born in Chester. Son David P. Morris, 15, daughter Hannah E. Morris, 14, a Dressmaker and Benjamin Morris, 12 were born in Chester. Daughter Elizabeth A. Morris, 10 and Edward Telford (sic), 5 were born in Saltney.

The 1911 census sees the family living at 55, Mold Junction, Saltney ( I belive this to be 55, Ewart Street, Mold Junction, Saltney, the same address as before.) Head of the household was Robert Morris, 53, a Railway Guard, born in Penybont, Montgomeryshire and Wife Elizabeth, 59, they state they had been married for 30 years and 7 children had been born to them, but 1 child had died. Son Benjamin, 21 and single was a Railway Clerk, daughter Elizabeth, 20 was a Dressmaker at Denson's Drapers. Son Edmund R ( or P?) Morris, 15 was at school.

Edmund is buried in the plot VI so must have died in the capture of Vimy Ridge in April 1917, please read the CWGC Certificate.

British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 about Edmund P Morris tells us that he was awarded the Victory & British War Medals but does not tell us where his first Theatre of War was nor when he entered it. It does tell us he was awarded the Victory & British Medals.

UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 about E. P. Morris confirms his regimental details and also tells us that he was born in Hawarden and enlisted at Bangor, Caernarvonshire.

The Saltney Ferry War Memorial commemorates those men of the area who died during World War I and World War II.
The memorials, formerly sited in St. Mathew's Church in Saltney Ferry (which was was destroyed by fire in 2008), are now in St Mark's Church in High Street, Saltney.

Saltney Ferry is a village to the west of the town of Saltney in Deeside, Flintshire. Between 1974 and 1996 it was in the county of Clwyd.

Edmund Pulford MORRIS is the correct name, he is shown on the Clwyd Family History Website as Edward Pulford Morris. He is also in the Hawarden County School Roll of Honour
