William's Story.
William was born in Oughtrington, Lymm in 1899, youngest son of Mrs J Brooker, The Lodge, Oughtrington, Lymm.He was educated at Oughtrington School and in civilian life he was a chaffeur at Stapeley House in Northwich. He initally enlisted with the South Lancashire Regiment in March 1916 at Chester, transferring 2 years later to the Manchester Regiment.
He was wounded and gassed in June 1918 and was hospitalized in Newcastle-upon-Tyne before returning to France on January 4th 1918. It was in April that year that he transferred to the Manchester Regiment.
He died of wounds to the head, neck and arm received in action on 28th April 1918.
