Isaac's Story.

Issac Littlemore was the son of Joseph and Hannah (Annie) Littlemore, of 108 Greenway Road, Runcorn. He was a reservist of the 1st Battalion, which had been stationed in India, but have arrived in France about Christmas time, 1914. Isaac, had re-enlisted on the 7th September 1914, at the age of 35 years and 11 months, being mobilised intot he 2nd Battalion from the 8th September 1914 to 17th December 1914. On the 18th, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion and was involved in much of the early fighting. He was wounded in the fighting around Neuve Chapell ont he 18th April and died in the same day.
He had served for 101 days with the 2nd Battalion and 122 days with the 1st making a total of 223 days service.

In a letter from a comrade to Isaac's brother, he wrote,
"You and your people have need to be proud of the sacrifice he made, he gave his life in rescuing a wounded sergeant. The sergeant had gone into the open and was wounded, and your brother nipped over and brought him in, himself receiving a mortal wound. It is an everlasting silent testimony to his greatness of heart and courage"

Prior to enlisting he was employed at Castner Kellner Works, weston point, Runcorn.

Cheshire County Memorial Project would like to thank Michael Brierley for the picture of Isaac's headstone.
