WALTER WILLIAM JOLLY WELSH 

Walter William Jolly's Story.

Walter was born in Seacombe, Cheshire in 1887. He lived with his father Thomas, a ship's steward, and his mother Mary at 9 Geneva Road. He had 2 brothers, Norman & Kenneth, and 3 sisters, Nora,Muriel & Florence. By 1911 they were living at 69 Park Road. Walter was an assistant ships storekeeper.
  He enlisted in Wallasey. He was killed in action on the 31st July 1917. He is buried at Bard Cottage Cemetery, Belgium. I  M10.

 The Battalion war diary for that day:

  3.50am.  Our artillery opened up a terrific barrage on the enemy's front line. 13th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers moved up and took up their positions behind the barrage ready to advance when the barrage lifted.
 5.20am. Message received from Officer Commanding B Company that he had taken the Blue Line at 4.50am. Prisoners coming in large numbers. 
Captured documents forwarded to Brigade HQ.
 5.25am. Message received from Officer Commanding "A" Company that he had taken the Blue Line at4.45am & was in touch with troops on his left & right. 
 5.30am. Message received from the Signalling Officer that he had established  a forward command post in the neighbourhood of Kiel Cot.
  Eight prisoners sent by runner and communications established with the Brigade's forward station.
Casualties: 150 killed.
