William's Story.
Enlisted Macclesfield. Commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey (Panel 75 to 77) and the Nantwich War Memorial. Son of Michael and Bridget O’Brien of 7, Second Wood Street, Nantwich. Worked prior to enlisting in October 1914, as an apprentice cutter at J. Haighton & Sons (Clothiers). Landed at “C” Beach, Suvla Bay on August 8/9, 1915. Came from a family of soldiers. His father had fought with The Black Watch throughout the Boer War, and his uncle Mr Jackson, with whom he resided, had fought in many campaigns, including the Zulu Wars.
