John Walker's Story.

Mr. and Mrs. Harbord, of 6, Fairfax Road, Higher Tranmere, have received the sad news that their eldest son, Private John Walker Harbord, was killed in action at the Dardanelles on the 19th August. He was present at the landing in Suvla Bay on the 10th August, and part in the heavy fighting on that occasion without mishap. He was 22 years of age and leaves a wife and young child to mourn his sad loss.
On the outbreak of war young Harbord, who was in the employ of the L. and N.W. Railway, immediately joined the 4th Cheshires, and after hard and strenuous training in the Midlands was eventually sent to Egypt en route for the Dardanelles. He was well known at the South End of the borough, and his death has been received with deep regret among a very large circle of friends, whilst his wife and his father and mother have been the recipients of many messages of condolence.
Mr. and Mrs. Harbord have two other sons in the 4th Cheshires. Their second son, Lance-Corporal Joseph Harbord, is at the Dardanelles, and has been through the recent heavy fighting. Their youngest son, Thomas, is also serving in the 4th Cheshires.
