Birkenhead News 25 August 1915OXTON LIEUTENANT KILLED.
Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Danson Bereaved.
News has been received by Mr. F. C. Danson of the firm of Messrs. F. C. Danson and Co., average adjusters of Liverpool, that his son Lieut. F. R. Danson, 4th Cheshire Regiment, has been killed in the region of the Dardanelles. The young Lieutenant, who was 23 years of age, was born in Birkenhead, and was Mr. and Mrs Danson’s elder son, the younger son, also of the 4th Cheshires, being at the present moment on service with his battalion. Lieut. Danson was educated at Sedburgh Grammar School and Trinity College, Oxford, taking his honours degree in law. He afterwards entered his father’s office. Prior to the outbreak of war he was a Territorial officer, and when hostilities broke out he volunteered for service abroad, and was a very capable and popular officer.
It is of interest to state that the 4th Cheshire (T.F.) is a continuation of the original 1st Cheshire Volunteer Regiment, and that the grandfather of Lieut. Danson was one of the first to join, being an officer under the command of the late much-esteemed Colonel King.
