Included here is a Peter Wakefield, Peter Wakefield’s name came up in the search of the “Fallen” on the C.W.G.C. using Weaverham. Peter is not one of the Wakefield’s on the “Roll of Honour” or on the main “Fallen” memorial. Peter is included here as C.W.G.C. have him with a Weaverham connection due to his wife living at Owley Wood.
C.W.G.C – remember Peter Wakefield, MM, at the LOOS MEMORIAL, Panel 65, France, he was with 1st Bn. East Lancashire Regiment, No 17379. He died on Tuesday, 25th June 1918, he was aged 37. Son of the late Peter and Mary Ann Wakefield of Moulton, Northwich; husband of Elizabeth Gandy (formerly Wakefield) of 37 Barrymore Rd. Owley Wood, Weaverham. (Cheshirebmd records a Peter Wakefield marrying a Elizabeth Moran, 1900, at St. Helen’s Witton. Elizabeth’s marriage to William Gandy was in 1922. That same year a Sydney Wakefield married a Gladys Gandy at St. Mary’s Weaverham. Is Sydney, Peter’s brother? )
Cheshirebmd records a Peter Wakefield born in 1883 Northwich District. A Peter Wakefield is remembered on the Moulton Memorial.
N.A.M.C. - have two cards for a Wakefield, Peter,:- The cards have the same Reg’t. Number and both East Lancs Regiment just stating slightly different things. The 1st medal card has Peter Wakefield with the 8th Bn. East Lancs. Reg’t. No17379, Private, awarded 15 Star, British and Victory medals, Theatre of War, France; Date of Entry, 1/8/15, the card records Peter missing, death 25/6/18. The 2nd medal card for Wakefield P. East Lancs Reg’t No 17379, Private, Theatre, France; Awarded Military Medal, Date of Gazette, 9/12/16.
