Thomas's Story.
Northwich Guardian Article 21st Dec. 1917 PRIVATE THOMAS BARTON
Private Thomas Barton of the Cheshire Regiment, son of Mr John Barton, Marston,was killed in action on October 22nd. He was 24 years of age and was a single man. In civil life his occupation was that of a farm labourer and for some years he worked for Mr. Eaton, of Lane Ends Farm, Marston. Just before joining the Colours he was in the employ of Samuel Hopley at Wincham. He enlisted about two years ago and had been on active service for several months. Private Barton was educated at Marston School under the late Mr. Ford.
C.W.G.C. remember a Thomas Barton, Pte., with the 15th Bn. Cheshire Reg’t., No 44153, died 22nd October 1917 at the Tyne Cot Memorial (Panel 61 to 63) Belgium. No family details recorded.
The Cheshire Regiment book on the “Fallen” records a Barton, Thomas in the 15th listings, b Tabley, Ches., enlisted Chester, 44153, Pte. K in A., F. &.F. 22/10/17.
Based on Thomas’s age of 24 as stated in the article, Cheshirebmd records the birth of a Thomas Barton in 1891 in Northwich. The 1911 census records Thomas Barton living with the Eaton family at Lane Ends Farm, Marston, Northwich. He was seen as a Servant, aged 19, a Waggon-man, born Marston.
