Lieut. N. G. Wright Missing.

Letter from his Colonel.

Mr. and Mrs. Wright, of South Road, Devonshire Park, whose son, Lieut. N. G. Wright, has been previously reported as missing, have since received the following letter concerning him from the Lieut.-Colonel, of his regiment, in which that officer writes :-

“I do most sincerely wish that I could give you some reassuring news of your son, but I am afraid that the information I have been able to obtain is of the most meagre nature. On the 13th the Battalion was called on to carry out an assault on a wood that is now notorious and your son led his platoon on to the attack in the most gallant way, as did all my officers. The attack was met and checked by a very heavy machine gun and rifle fire. It was then that your son was seen to fall. After dark on the night of the 13th search parties went out to bring in all the wounded that they could find, but did not find your son ….. Except for the fact that two or three men of your son’s company saw him fall some distance off I have been able to get no trace of him whatever, I am afraid this is a very bad statement of facts, and I am intensely sorry to be unable to give you more cheering news.”

The young officer was attached to the Queen’s Royal West Surreys. It is to be sincerely hoped that his parents will soon receive more reassuring news of their son. Any information concerning him will be gratefully received by them.
