Birkenhead News. 11 August 1917SUVLA BAY “VETERAN”
Killed in Action.
Mr. And Mrs. W. E. Woodworth, whose home is at 7, Kent Place, have received the official intimation of the death in action, on July 19th, of their youngest son, Pte. John Henry (Jack) Woodworth. The deceased soldier joined the Cheshire Regt. On his 19th birthday in January 1915, and took part in the memorable landing at Suvla Bay. During that time, he was in hospital with dysentery, and was operated on for appendicitis. Later he was drafted to France.
He was an old boy of Cathcart Street Council School. Much sympathy will be extended towards Mr. And Mrs. Woodworth in the loss of their gallant soldier son, who was well known and highly respected in the town.
