Perry Street Soldier Killed.
On Sunday official information reached Mrs Walker, of 28, Perry Street, Runcorn, that her son, Private Sidney Mees Walker had been killed in action, place not known. Private Walker joined the 6th South Lancashire Regiment in August 1914, and after nine months training was drafted out to the Dardanelles. He was that wounded in the foot, and came to England for a few months, afterwards going out to France in January this year. While at the Dardanelles he was transferred from the 6th to the 2nd battalion South Lancashire Regiment. Before the war private Walker, who was 24 years of age, was employed at Gossage’s at Widnes. He and his parents were connected with the Halton Road Wesleyan Church, well for some time before his death his father had acted as caretaker. Before going out private Walker was a teacher in the Sunday school, and both he and his mother are well known in the locality. Another brother of the deceased has been reported wounded and missing.
