Arthur James's Story.
Arthur was born in Newtown, Chester in 1894. He lived with his father James, an engineer's labourer, and his mother Jessie at 16 New Street. He had a brother Norman. By 1911 they were living at 26 St James Street, Chester. His father was now a boiler stoker for Chester's Turkish Baths. Arthur was a porter for a furniture dealer. The family later moved to Rhyl, Flintshire.Arthur enlisted in Rhyl into the 5th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He entered the Balkans theatre of war on the 8th August 1915. He served at Gallipoli. He died of wounds received in action on board the hospital ship "Karapara", on his way to the military hospitals in Malta. He was buried at sea.
