Harold's Story.

Gunner Harold Saunders, formerly of 12, Vulcan Street, Birkenhead, was killed in action on August 25th. He joined the Cheshires at the outbreak of war, from which regiment he was discharged. He next went to sea for six months, and then joined the R.F.A., and he had been in France for two years without leave.
A letter from his captain states :- “he was one of my most reliable gunners, and was killed beside his gun instantaneously. The loss has affected me very much. He was buried with full military honours in a nice cemetery behind the lines, which is taken care of by the grave registration committee.”
Another letter from his sergeant states :- “During the time he was with us he was a trustworthy and reliable soldier, and I cannot tell you how much the boys and myself will miss him, for he was well liked by everyone in the battery.”
Prior to joining the Army, deceased was employed at Messrs. Grayson’s, and resided with his father at 12, Vulcan Street. Much sympathy will go out to Mr. Saunders and relatives in their sad loss.
