Birkenhead News  14 September 1918

DIED OF WOUNDS.

Mrs. Molyneux, of 6, Star Street, Rock Ferry, has received official news to the effect that her husband, Sergt. George Molyneux, of the Cheshire Regt., has succumbed to wounds received in action on August 22 at the 56th Casualty Clearing Station France. Sergt. Molyneux, who came of a well-known and highly respected family, was 39 years of age, and he was familiarly known to all his friends as “Barney.” At the outbreak of war he rejoined the colours, after having served for eight years with the Cheshire Regt. in India, and being a time expired man he was quickly drafted to France, and had served there for three years and nine months. He had also seen service on the Italian front. He had been twice slightly wounded.

Of two of his step-sons who are in the army, one the eldest, was killed in action. Prior to rejoining Sergt. Molyneux was employed at Messrs. Cammell Laird, and was the third son of Mrs. Molyneux, of Lower Bebington, who has four more sons at present serving with the forces – one is a prisoner of war in Germany. Her son in law is also a prisoner, another son Samuel, has served his country and is now discharged. These lads will be remembered by many as the mainstay of the famous Bebington St. Andrew’s Football Club. Every sympathy will go to his widow and children in the sad loss they have suffered,
