Moreton Soldier Killed at Mons

After having hoped against hope for upwards of a year, Mrs William Massey of Smithy Lane, Moreton has at length received an official intimation that her husband was killed during the memorable retreat from Mons. Soon after the retreat he was reported ‘missing’ but all efforts to trace him have proved abortive, it was feared that he must have fallen. Private Massey, who was attached to the reserve section of the 1st Cheshire’s was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Massey, also of Smithy lane, and who have two other sons now fighting for King and country in the Navy.
