Harold's Story.

Born Coppenhall. Son of James Taylor and Mary Alice Mansfield of 58, Furber Street, Crewe. Educated at Beech Street and Crewe Secondary Schools. Prior to enlisting was a clerk in the LNWR Accountants Department, Rugby. Formerly served in the 4th Royal Warwickshire Howitzer Brigade (R.F.A.) enlisting as a Gunner (No.151) on August 27, 1914, embarking from Southampton on March 30, 1915 for France (Le Havre). Gained his commission on January 30, 1916 and was posted to the 1st Bn. Cheshire Regiment on March 1, 1916. Originally wounded on April 2, 1916 (bullet wounds to the head) and died of meningitis in the Duchess of Westminster’s Hospital, Le Touquet, France.
